Christmas bauble:  Giant panda

Is it its strikingly spotted, black and white fur? Is it its thick fur, its ponderous figure or is it the black-rimmed, loyal eyes that regularly make us melt away at the sight of the giant panda? The endangered bear, which is native to China, looks like a cosy teddy bear, which also pulls out all the cuteness stops in this glass version for the Christmas tree, without appearing unnatural.

It stands on all four legs, the hollow space between them skilfully filled with the help of a tall tuft of grass in matt reed green and individually glittered green blades of grass, and looks out of friendly eyes, which, like the rest of the body, have been carefully dabbed with irises and pupils in a combination of black and white. The muzzle and the claws on its paws have been painted with thin brushstrokes. For extra sophistication, the animal was also glittered in two different ways: the shoulders and legs sparkle with a dusting of black. The white fur has been covered with transparent glitter sticks, creating a wonderfully hairy effect.
